Framing With Perspectives: Connecting Local Filmmakers with Our Films

This year’s Perspectives Film Festival introduced a new video series that aimed to broaden the discourse and appreciation for films. By connecting individuals in the Singaporean film industry with the international programmed films at the festival, conversations were sparked. Concurrently, a deeper appreciation for the works of these outstanding individuals might be germinated alongside the connecting of our Singaporean perspective with interconnected global ones too. For many Singaporean filmgoers, we might not be familiar with the iconic Scala Cinema in Thailand that was demolished during the pandemic. Despite that, any audience member watching the film Scala would relate to the communal sense of loss from that historic site. Like all old landmarks that were torn down, past audiences held significant memories of the Scala Cinema.
